THE THREE STOOGES
The Stooges aren't really my cup of tea, but they seem to be universally adhored by third grade boys.
So it was only a matter of time before we had a Three Stooges Party.

Flyer-like invitations were delivered.

Kinkos/FedEx printed a black and white poster of the menu for $2.50.

The marquee went up early, before the 103 degree heat hit the Southland.

A Three Stooges Sound Effects Album was purchased through iTunes
along with the Stooges TV Theme Song from the album Retro TV Themes.

These were played as a pre show warm-up.
The theme song was played after every fifth sound effect.
Yes, I did find that annoying.
No, the boys didn't seem to care a bit.
A sample of the melodic pre show entertainment has been provided for your *enjoyment*.

A ten minute countdown clock, which originally included clips from vintage drive-in ads, was modified to include clips from old Stooges movies instead. An edited clip is shown at the left.

For more about countdown clocks, go to
Countdown Clock, Intros, Trailers, and Slides
and
Creating a Pre Show Countdown Clock.

The boys wore wigs and stood under a Stooges Sign. Lots of pictures were taken. Everyone got a chance to be photographed in each of the three wigs.

BoyStooges22

I looked for wigs online ($25 - $40. Ouch!) and ended up purchasing inexpensive wigs from a local costume company.
The Moe wig is a Beatles wig after it was given a bowl haircut.
Larry's wig is an Afro Wig with a piece of rubber skull cap glued on top.
Curly is made from a skull cap colored with brown marking pen.

Swiss Family Robinson

Basically, this was a low-keyed luau party with a movie.

SFRobinsonInvitationxxx2
We served snow cones in plastic coconut cups.
Eight children (plus siblings) were invited.
I always make the number of Recipients of Free Stuff much larger than the actual number of people invited. Everyone goes home with a party favor.

The portable snack bar got some "bamboo slipcovers" on its side poles,
a grass table skirt, and a new sign.

A new 10 minute countdown clock was created.

And, yes, I know the Swiss Family Robinson story takes place somewhere in the West Indies, but I had to grab island clips where I could find them,
so this had to do.

Pirates of the Caribbean

PirateWeekFLyer2a

This is an intermission clip made for our Pirates of the Caribbean Movie Night. Although the invitees were all under 12, parents and siblings are always welcome. This was created mainly for the enjoyment of the parents.
GraciePrePirateGracieInPirateGetupSpeaking of pirates . . . We asked our guests to dress up as pirates when we showed Pirates of the Caribbean, so probably wouldn't have used this little iPhone/iPad app (iArrPirate). However, it is sort of fun. You take a child's picture and she can pick hats, jewelry, head and facial hair, and birds. You can email the picture to yourself or her parents or send it directly to your iPhoto album, right there on the spot.

Tickets and Free Tatoo coupons were emailed to invitees prior to Movie NIght.

THE GREAT GATSBY
As much as I love the book, I've never cared for any of the movies (even the one starring Redford, my personal heart throb).
Still, I'm hoping the latest one will live up to its hype.
In anticipation of next summer's (2014) DVD release, I'm already starting to prepare for a Gatsy BYT party.

Despicable Me

 photo JoeleneDespicableMeEdith.jpg

We got lucky with this one.

Athough Despicable Me 2 held the top spot at the box office,
none of the guests had seen it yet,
so this showing was a nice refresher course
before going to the theater to see No. 2.

THE BAD NEWS BEARS

The MLB's
postseason schedule
is about to begin.

With extra warm September nights,
reaching record breaking temperatures,
a Baseball Movie Night
seemed a good way
of bringing our BYT season
to a close.

The photo booth was available
throughout the night.

An enlarged version of the above backdrop was painted to use
inside the Photo Booth. ------- >

If you're looking to paint your own backdrops (party stores sell them for $16 and up), do a Google image search for your backdrop image, adding the words "coloring pages" or "cartoon" at the end of your search criteria. This helps to locate a simplistic picture that's easier to duplicate.
I found this image by googling "baseball backdrop cartoon" and clicking the images tab.

A Bad News Bears logo was located on the internet.
Three logos were printed and colored with felt pens. The logos were cut out and glued to yellow baseball caps.
